Their figures were slim, their features sharp, but their beauty was undeniable. An aura of regal power surrounded them, almost palpable to the touch. The elder woman, crows feet and whitening hair proclaiming her age, spoke first, breaking the heavy silence.
"I thank you graciously for coming." She paused, smelling the air. She gazed at each adventurer in turn, weighing each one, balancing them against each other, sensing hidden strengths and disguised weaknesses in each. "My sister will tell you everything you need to know." She turned and walked away, swaying sinuously.
The sister left behind smiled without mirth and walked around the ten adventurers in a wide circle, talking as she went. "We are... in need of something. Something that we hope you can get for us." She stopped again, tilted her head in a strangely familiar way, and said, "Something for which you will be well rewarded for finding."
She strolled back the the platform, swaying like her sister as she walked. "Its an artifact, a glass snake curled into a ball. Get it for us, and you will be well rewarded. The artifact is rather difficult to get to, or we would get it ourselves. So we've hired you to get it for us. You'll need to take a portal deep in the southern mines. Once you get there, you'll have 24 hours before the portal closes again. Make sure you get back in time! We can reopen the portal, but if you get sealed in, we can't help you."
She turned to the first adventurer. "You. Your name?"
The man in armor cleared his throat, nonplussed at being directly addressed by a woman of this calibur. "Bene, m'Lady. A cleric of-"
"Just your name, Bene. That's all I asked for, that's all I want."
She address the next adventurer in line, without taking her eyes off Bene. "And you, your name? And just your name, please, not your biography."
