Arrival at the High Forest |
Lead | |
|
The figure shimmered one last time with an unearthly glow and then out came a woman of eighteen. Tying her hair with a leather trough, she looked around the place. Breathing in the fresh air, sweet and earthly, she smiled. Today's my first day in the world. Elmuria remembered the happiness her mother felt for her courage to go into the world and also the fear for her safety in the inknown world. Never mind the mysteries of tomorrow. What matter's now. With that, she went exploring into the forest. Though many have said that it was dangerous but she was a creature of the forest, a creature of the earth. What matters more was to satisfy the curiousity in her.

The day was nice, the sun eminating through cracks in the tree tops, a warm breeze moving, rustling the leaves and making the world seem alive. Rabbits ran about, seeming to be as playful as ever. As she moved on through the dence foliage of the lively forest, the sound of chirping birds and happiness reached all listening ears. A little while later, you come apon an opening, with a small pond in the middle.

((I've got my sheet and description posted in the character sheets section should you care to take a look at it, perhaps being a creature of the woods would allow Elmuria some sort of communication between her and myself))
As Elmuria explored the forest, another being hunted. He was as much a one with the land as Elmuria, yet in a very different way. Others would have called him a savage, but the hunter knew nothing of this. He knew nothing of the civilization that spawned him. He knew nothing but that which he learned from his brothers in the pack, and from the hunt. Naked and unashamed he ran with his brothers chasing their prey. The hunter sniffed the air, and from the corner of his eyes sees the quarry, the four legged creature smelled of fear, and moved to bolt. Too late as the hunter lept with inhuman speed and strength, a full 30 feet to impale his kill tooth into the creature's spotted hide. Then the pack was upon the poor beast, and it was dead. They fed well that night as the hunter and his brothers and sisters fed upon the sweet raw flesh of the freshly slain deer. The pack returned to their den, bringing scraps for the young, and settled down. Before the hunter slept though he caught wind of something he had never smelled before. Curious he yiped and howled to his brothers and sisters I going, be back soon . With that the hunter left to investigate the unusual smell, and came across, a strange animal. To his amazement the animal seemed to be like himself. Yet different some how. Yes she was female, the hunter had never seen a female two legs before. That was what his brothers called him, a two legs. The hunter continued to watch the two legs from the shadows and followed her closely as though stalking prey |

The beast in the shadows went unnoticed, for the most part. Elmuria had just came upon a beautifully green glade, with the morning dew glistening while gathering on the blades of grass which were flowing in a soothing, rythmic pattern over the ground of the peaceful forest. There was a pond, not a ripple in it, set easily in the center of the glen, reflecting all the wonders of nature around it. Flowers were set along the small bank of the pond, reflecting the colors of them along with the rest. It was early morning, the rays of the sun reaching through spaces in the trees, making their way to the rich and solid ground of the forest. The trees all around were dense, green as a tree could be. This little enclosed paridice that Elmuria had just discovered seemed to be separated from normality. As she, and the beast, studied the pond from a distance, it seemed to glimmer and shine, even though no sun was hitting it.

The hunter stalked in the darkness, attempting to keep his entire body low to the ground as he, studied the female two legs. Only the slightest shuffle of the leaves could be heard as he circled into a better position, this was the sort of shuffle that could have easily come from the wind. The hunter caught a glimse of the shimmering pool out of the corner of his eye. However after determining that the pond was no threat to himself, he ignored it and concentrated on the two legs in front of him. His first thought was What is a two legs doing here? Where is her pack? Is she a danger to my brothers? and so on. These thoughts were not actually words but rather the instincts of a hunter as he considered the situation. For the moment he studies and waits. |

((Now Elmuria, make a spot check))
((EDIT: Elmuria, I'll give you a week to respond. You are now currently an NPC till you return.)) ((1D20+3 [11] = 14 Spot Check)) Elmuria thought she heard something abnormally rustle in the trees to her left, and she turned her head to look. She saw nothing within the shadows of the deep dense forest, so she put it out of her mind. She continued foreward, taking one slow step at a time, slowly advancing on the central pond in the glade. ((whats your name exactally?)) The beast could see the figure slowly advancing the pond. From where he was, he could see most of the clearing, allowing to see most of what was going on. ((Being raised by a pack of wolves, where others are identified by smell doesn't tend to allow a character to develop a sense of what a name is never mind actually having one. He refers to himself as 'the hunter' so I suppose you could call him that, or if it is part of your ultimate DM plan you could have him discover his real name))
Spot check 1D20+6 [12] = 18 The hunter looks around the area, and sniffs the air, something seems, wrong, about this place. He continues to wait in the shadows |

Re: Arrival at the High Forest

The hunter could sense something wrong around the pond, seemed to beautiful to be true... His eyes spotted something moving in the grass behind the walking figure, something not very natural, so it seemed. The grass rustled creating a line, moving toward the not noticing suspect. Then your eyes catch another like it, parting the grass in it's path. Whatever they were seemed to be small, short, and silent. The figure didn't seem to notice as the things in the grass quickly gained on her from behind.

Re: Arrival at the High Forest

As it was his nature to be cautious, and he did not know if he could trust this two legs the hunter, watched and waited, preparing to spring, should he decide whatever approched, might become a danger to himself or his brothers.
The hunter crouched and let out an almost silent growl as the hairs on the back of his neck stood on end. |

((Okay, sorry Elmuaria, time's up. In order to play again, you have to rejoin again. You have taken too long to post. Please come back soon, this character will now be killed or made into an NPC, depending on what the hunter does. IF you come back, you can start again. Sorry.))
As Elmuaria looked into the pond, the things that were rustling the grass had acheived to reach her feet. They quickly started to go up her legs, and as they did, the hunter could see that they were vines. The girl let out a shreek and fell backwards. The vines started wrapping themselves around her feet, almost immobilizing them. She tried to stab at them with her knife, but they just quickly grew back. Then, around ten other vines came out of the pond also wrapping around her legs. The vines had wrapped completely around the lower half of her body as she struggled and screamed for help. She started to slowly get dragged into the pond. |

Re: Arrival at the High Forest

The hunter seeing the vines tangle around the strange two legs, sprang forward and attempted to find and destroy the thing's roots. The hunter did not understand why he felt the need to kill the plant. Were he able to think in such a way, he might have rationalized his actions as protecting the his brothers from this unnatural 'thing'. However the hunter never thought, he only acted. Using his cut tooth, he attacked the vine thing, attempting to cut it apart ((should I roll an attack here? and just where are the vines coming from))

Re: Arrival at the High Forest

(( Sounds good to me... (I was always told to take the DM's "recommendations"
Upon waking to the sunrise this morning, Fig Faun's buggy informants told him of a strange disturbance over by what they commonly referred to as "mosquito pond." When he inquired further, he seemed to get the impression that the forest was fighting itself. Bewildered, he called to Skitter, and together they headed off towards the pond. Breaking free of the treeline surrounding the pond, Fig Faun saw what so confused the insects. What he at first glance took for a dryad seemed to be being dragged into the pond by a series of strong vines. "But a dryad would never fight with nature, nor would nature attack it," thought Fig Faun. Something is definately not right. Not sure who to help, should he decide to help either side at all, he stood perplexed at the situation. His delay was fortuitous, because while he watched, a feral man suddenly leaped towards the coupled pair, and started tearing at the vines. He could tell neither whether the strange woman was the victim, or if it were the vines who needed the most help. Not wanting either injured, he debated what to do. Speaking Sylvan, assuming the "dryad" would understand, and ignoring the feral human, he spoke, ["What goes here? Why should you and nature quarrel?"] However, still unable to pick sides, the confused druid remains otherwise inactive, placing a calming hand on Skitter to keep him from joining the fray. |

Re: Arrival at the High Forest

((I just feel I should clarify something here, the hunter's 'cut tooth' is not an actual tooth, it is a crude bone knife. Like wise his kill tooth is a spear. The hunter made these crude items himself. The hunter thinks of his weapons, any armor he might wear (he doesn't have any right now, but who knows he might make something out of hide), and anything else he posseses or uses as a wolf might. His weapons are his 'teeth', his hands and feet his 'paws' and his voice a growl. P.S. if you do plan on returning to 'civilized' lands, you may wish to find him a loin cloth or something, wolves don't usually wear clothing, and as such the hunter was never introduced to the concept))

Re: Arrival at the High Forest

The hunter could see that the vines came from deep into the forest, but there were many comming from the bank of the pond itself.((You need to roll an attack for each vine)) There were about 10 vines emanating from the water, wrapping themselves around the now helpless victim. She screamed even louder when she saw the harry human with a knife darting around the area and she didn't know if he was friendly or not.((You can't see any roots, they are either in the water or off into the forest))

Re: Arrival at the High Forest

Deciding that the vines are going to be hurt whether he acts or remains impassive, Fig Faun decides to help the fey "human" disentangle herself. He sends Skitter off with instructions to begin pulling the "dryad" free as soon as it senses, that the vines are being attacked.
Watching the giant spider scurry off, the druid begins his spell. Pulling from the powers of the earth, Fig Faun casts Summon Nature's Ally II calling an octopus to battle the vines from inside the torpid waters. ((I'm not sure how to role castings)) |

((Attack roll 1D20+8 [17] = 25, probably a hit, unless they are super vines, damage roll, 1D4+4 [4] = 8 of course if that doesn't hit you may wish to edit this post))
The hunter pounced. He tears at the vines with his tooth, ripping and tearing at it just like a feral creature, in fact he exactly like a feral creature would. He tore a large chunk out of one of the vines, while just as quickly turning his attention to the others. The hunter fighting on finely tuned instincts became faintly aware of a newcomer to the grove, not allowing himself to become distracted, the hunter manuvered himself so that the vines were between himself and this new potential threat. Another two legs. The thought was barely acnowledged as combat, and the smell of chlorophyll, ocupied the hunter. |

((Dralix, You have my permission to join any time you want, as long you dont enter from falling from the sky or something. Have a reason you are wandering in the middle of the forest. Hunter, that is a hit. Fig, you did fine on the casting
The poor unknowing druid victim screamed as the hunter pounced in her general direction, swiping with his dagger. The vine snapped at the tooth's sharpness and the stub end receded into the water. The other end unraveled itself and shriviled up. Then, a low rumble spread through the clearing as a large ripple could be seen in the pond's water. The hunter had no idea what was happening, nor the victim. ((Take a suprise check hunter)) A medium sized octopus' head popped out of the water as the rumbling faded. It's appearence created the still pond to be disrupted as waves of water flowed over the sides.((The pond is about 30-40 feet wide)) Elmuari's feet were moving below water level as the vines dragged her further into the pond. A couple of the vines retreated back into the pond from the appearence of the octopus and the scaryness of the hunter. ((Now, hunter can make another attack, and Fig can control the summon thing)) |

Re: Arrival at the High Forest

Fig Faun watches sadly as the vines are broken, feeling a loss for the beautiful plant. However, he knows it poses a danger to the fey creature he has commited himself to freeing. Skitter begins pulling the woman back from the edge of the pond, her feet already wading in the turbulent waters. Meanwhile, seeing the purple, bulbous head of the octopus emerge from the waters, he directs the summoned creature to wrap its tentacles each around a vine and to pull them apart. With Skitter pulling on one end, and the octupus pulling eight vines against themselves from the other, the vines are trapped in a macabre tug-o-war, chloroplast straining against sinew and muscle.

((Roll an attack to each of the vines for your octopus Fig. 2d8 hp, 8 arm attacks, +5 to hit each, 0 damage.))
Skitter grabbed a good hold on Elmuria, and she didn't seem to mind, being the druid that she was. It seemed she could feel the creatures intentions. The vines were putting up a fight, trying to win the fight they had started. They seemed streatched and seemed to be getting weaker. |

I'll just put it there, and you can edit it to show me how to do it correctly. I'm sorry... this part is just what confuses me a bit.))

Re: Arrival at the High Forest

((Right, you have 8 arms, so thats 8 attacks that have to add 5 to hit, and you roll the d20 to hit. I gave you the needed stats of a level 2 octopus. You rolled it fine; do you have the Monster Manual? Because your going to have to look up any monsters you summon next time, not me
The octopus cought on to 6 of the flailing vines, and slowly pulled them apart. The vines slowly unraveled and gave the pulling spider had an easier time pulling Elmaria. ((Hunter's turn)) |
