"Just where do you think you're going?" snarls Renaud, growling down at the gnome.
"I was going to go out and -"
"I think not. While you were out galvanizing about in the Outer Planes - after perusing one of my books, I might add - I found that you have been selling scrolls to pay for magical research and to fund the creation of your... toys..." his eyes glance over Calcereous's glove and the pouch containing his circlet, "and yet I have had not a copper. Have you forgotten our agreement?"
Calcereous's eyes go blank for a moment - literally, thanks to his goggles - as his mind races back to when he first contracted to Renaud months ago...
Quote:
"Very well. As your reward for services rendered, I shall take you in as my apprentice and aid you in construction of this glove, but I shall bind you to a Geas. You shall neither steal from me, nor attempt to harm me in any way. In addition, I shall take a 10% commission from all magical items sold by you while you are in my service. Have we a pact?"
"Oh, of course not, Renaud! I was merely... waiting until it was a suitable amount, to be worthy of taking your time away from your ever-important studies. After all, it would hardly do for me to come bothering you with every copper here and there, would it? In fact, here's the gold that's rightfully yours, and a little more thrown in as a token of my thanks." Calcereous reaches into the bag of holding and tugs out the bag of coins contained within; he never *did* get around to counting them, as most of it was Traldar's money anyway.
Renaud's eyes widen greedily when he glances inside and sees the glitter of platinum coins. "I... see. Well done, apprentice." He looks up and smiles, but Calcereous can't help but think that he'd trust a grinning lich skull more than this smile.
"I have an errand for you to run. While you were... 'out', someone has been, ah, disturbing my undead. Or, more properly, putting them to rest. I haven't been able to harvest a proper ghoul bone for days. I want you to go to the Graveyard District and find out who or what has been disrupting my recent shopping trips and put a stop to it. Oh, and leave the tiefling out of it for once; I want to see what you can do when you don't have a planeborn watching your back."
