Everyone scattered and begin gathering up the pieces of the ivory box and placing them in a small crate from backstage.
Elewyn picks up the dagger she threw earlier, then carefully studies each piece as it is brought over.
"Um, excuse me... I think you might need this." Elewyn looks over to see a simple, non-descript man holding out an attendant's badge. The man flips over the badge, revealing a single rune etched on the reverse side. "It's got the same sorta markings as those ivory bits you guys seem to be interested in."
"Oh. Um, are there any more of those?"
"Dunno."
Elewyn stamps her foot and points towards the weapons booth. "Then go find out!"
"... Do I have to?"
Elewyn covers her face for a moment in exasperation, then stamps her foot and points again.
"... 'k." Ithan reluctantly goes off to look for badges.
Sorax stomps over, now wearing an ornate breastplate and oversized gauntlets. His face even more angry than before. "Those bastards stole my axe!" Ithan silently points at the greataxe hanging easily in one of Sorax's hands. "Not this thing; MY axe! The one my father gave me!"
"Oh." Ithan shrugs and wanders off.
"Hey, I know what it's like to have someone steal your weapon," says Veit, tapping his warhammer thoughtfully. "Tell you what, I'll go after them and get it back for you!"
"Tyr bless you," says Sorax, laying a heavy hand on Veit's shoulder. "Razorwhip! Go with this man and make sure that those scoundrels get what's coming to them." The half-orc nods, sullenly, then glares at Veit before heading out.
"Here, let me get that," Sorax says, bending down and picking up the crate easily.
"That's alright, I can handle it," Elewyn responds.
Sorax looks grimly down at the young artificer. "Sorry, m'lady, but I'm not letting this thing out of my sight."
"Oh."
Sitting on the stage, Elewyn carefully sets out the pieces of the box, trying to see how they'd fit together without actually connecting them.
Several hours later, the area has been combed quite thoroughly and no other pieces have been found. Ithan is found napping on a bench, but when prodded awake he hands over three more badges. "Let's see, that's one for Sorax, one for Herkk, and one for - "
"One for me," says Italy, snatching the last badge before Tunevec can take it.
"Excuse me?!"
"Where he goes, I go," says Italy, pointing at Herkk. "Got a problem with that?"
"It's alright," says Tunevec, shrugging. "Perhaps I should go aid Veit; that dwarf couldn't track mud." He kneels and kisses Elewyn's hand, then turns and follows Veit's tracks.
"It's late; I'm gonna grab a drink. Cya." Italy turns and starts walking to the local tavern, and Elewyn realizes that it *is* late; the sun is just starting to set.
"Here, let's pack these things up and we can finish this tomorrow. I've got a few preparations I've got to make, too," says Elewyn, thinking of her books and shoes and other things back home. Sorax reluctantly agrees and carefully packs the pieces in the crate, using fold of cloth torn from the stage to separate the different layers.
Elewyn starts home as the others head for the local tavern; after a day like that, everyone is ready for a drink or two.
The walk back home is an enjoyable one. The setting sun still shines brightly on Baldur's Gate, casting the shadows of the buildings and people far across the cobblestone streets of the city. As she steps outside of the city, a cool breeze sweeps against Elewyn's face. "It would have been a perfect day to sit under a tree in the countryside, reading a good book... if it hadn't been for all the trouble earlier," she thinks as she pushes open the front gate to her home.
As the day before, Elewyn rings the doorbell, is welcomed inside, steps over the enchanted dustpan as it sweeps by, and heads for her room. She carefully places her new book on a small, wooden desk, then sits on her quilted bed and tries to guess which spells she should prepare.
The next morning, Italy fills her small leather backpack with all of her magical odds and ends before slinging it over one shoulder and walking out of her room and house towards the Fairegrounds, both excited and anxious of what events are about to unfold...
((Everyone, please post any preparations you're making; any last-minute purchases, which spells you have memorized, etc. Expect to be chatting Fri nights <crosses fingers> ))
