Darkness, impervious to even drow darkvision, gives way to a sickly green light. Bathed in the glow is a strange, snake-like creature, but there is no head: only a gaping mouth ringed with tentacles. The creature is floating over a tower some fifty feet tall, its barb-tipped tail occasionaly reaching over and tapping the side.
"You are all elves. Ages ago, you were intruders; now, you are regarded as natives. How could this be?
"You are all elves, yet some of you refuse to be grouped with the others. How could this be?
"You will show me. You shall all pass through a maze, designed around your 'native' terrains. Those that survive the maze shall fight the others in the final chamber.
"The survivor's race shall be spared and allowed to keep their 'native' lives. ONLY the survivor's race... "
The elves have but a few brief moments to look at the other captives with them, captives who had were snatched from their old lives like a summoned beast at the whim of this strange creature. Each is suspended in a pillar of light, held up for inspection like a butterfly on display.
One is a copper-haired wood elf, a longbow in his tense grip. The second elf has his face completely covered in green cloth, save for the eyes; a wild elf, presumably, judging from his forest-green clothes and his own longbow. Third is a black-haired sun elf, who also carries a longbow but seems more suited to reading books. Fourth is a silver-haired moon elf with the look of a graceful fencer, although he also bears a longbow. Fifth is apparently a red-haired moon elf, but unlike the previous elves he bears neither bow nor sword; he carries a darkwood staff and a dagger.
The sixth and seventh elves represent subraces rarely seen by their more-common brethren. One is an aquatic elf, looking quite uncomfortable out of the water, while the other is an avariel, a winged elf. Neither carries a longbow, but both are undisputably elves, and the swords at their sides proves that they are not unarmed.
The eighth elf is from a subrace known, hated, and feared throughout Faerun: drow. A rapier and hand crossbow rest on his hips, and his eyes are narrowed as he looks at the others... his prey.
The strange creature suddenly disappears and the green light spreads out to encompass everything in a bright glare. When it fades to a bearable level, everyone realizes they are standing together in a forest. There is a path of cleared dirt, starting from their clearing and moving away into the trees.
((You don't know each other's names, although you can choose to introduce yourselves, or not. You have all of your equipment, except for mounts or bought animals, animal companions, or possessions kept at home (like an alchemist's lab). You still have familiars if applicable. While you can't bring an animal companion with you, the opportunity may arise to temporarily win over a local inhabitant, thus gaining a temporary animal friend suitable to the current terrain (ie. don't immediately kill everything that moves!).
In your first post, please provide a brief description of your character (feel free to copy from your character sheet), so it's clear which elf is which. "An elf with a bow" doesn't quite cut it ^_~
Remember, if you attack another player's character, you need to Daggerford those rolls to me (and remember to roll for Initiative, too). If you have any questions, just ask, but otherwise, post-post-post! ^_^))
((Special rule for this adventure: because everyone's an elf, assume everyone's speaking Elven unless they specifically state otherwise. -Sy))
((Introduced so far: Lycran (star elf), Tarentis (dark elf), Servalah (wood elf), Aylyn (aquatic elf), Jancarius (sun elf), Aramil (moon elf). That's everyone, other than the deceased.))
